Christy, John (Christie, John) Private, Company H, 45th U.S. Colored Infantry Regiment. Born 1836, Franklin, Pa. 5’8”, Black eyes and hair, yellow complexion. Farm hand. Parents Jacob and Catherine Christie, brothers, Samuel, Joseph, Jacob and sister Mary Jane. (see Christy, Jacob) Enlisted 8-5-1864, at Harrisburg, Pa. discharged 8-15-1865, at Brownsville, Texas. Living next to his father’s house in 1880 census, Mercersburg, Montgomery District working as a laborer. He was 42, wife Mary, 37 and 10 year old son John were also at home. 1890 veterans census for Franklin Co. Pa, lists him in Montgomery twp. House # 139, listing a disability of rheumatism incurred in the war. Buried in Zion Cemetery, Mercersburg, Montgomery Twp. C-Grave 43.
