SPEAKER'S BUREAU

Welcome

To the United States Colored Troops Living History Association Speakers’ Bureau 

The Speakers’ Bureau is composed of USCTLHA Members who are available for speaking engagements at organizational meetings, civic organizations, school groups, etc.  The following are USCTLHA speakers that are participating in this program.

Dr. David Anderson – Author, Lecturer and Civil War Impersonator: David is a re-enactor/ interpreter of Frederick Douglass at the 1854 Anti-Slavery Convention, and USCT Veterans George Brown, 1st Heavy Artillery and Samuel Bibbs, 17th Infantry.

Mary Fears – Story Teller, Civil War Re-enactor, Genealogist and Author: Mary, a retired media specialist, of Bethume-Cookman college and Florida State University, is a professional Storyteller/Civil War re-enactor/Genealogist, and Arthur of four books.

George Geder – Genealogist, Restoration Specialist and Civil War Researcher:  In addition to his Civil War research and re-enacting activities, George is a restoration specialist who specializes in retouching and restoring old family photographs including Tin-types and postcards.

C.R. Gibbs – Author, Lecturer and Civil War Historian: C.R. is an internationally noted lecturer and historian of the African Diaspora. He is the author or co-author of six books, most recently “Black, Copper & Bright: The District of Columbia’s Black Civil War Regiment”

John Gourdin – Author, Lecturer, Genealogist and Civil War Researcher:  John is a Civil War researcher, genealogist and author of three books most notably “Voices from the past: 104th U.S. Colored Infantry – organized in South Carolina.”

Charles B. Hawley – Civil War Reenactor, Civil War Descendant:  Subjects include but not limited to, Black Soldiers in the Civil War, History of the 29th Regiment Connecticut Volunteers, & the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

Sharon Heist – Civil War Researcher, Lecturer:  Sharon is a frequent speaker on the USCT in the Civil War, Native American history, reproduction clothing from the 1840’s to 1890’s, and the Black Regulars during the Indian Wars.

Ruth Hodges – Librarian, Research Specialist: Ruth’s research experience spans more than three decades with more than twenty as librarian with the Army War College Library at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania and thirteen years with the Army Military History Institute.

Bennie McRae – Civil War Researcher, Author and Lecturer:  For many years, Bennie has focused his research on the African American Military Experience. He is the owner of three websites – “Lest We Forget,” “Making of the United States of America,” and “African American Military History."

Mel Reid – Civil War Re-enactor:  During 1998 Mel had the good fortune to be among the cast of the award-winning movie Glory (1989). For nearly two decades he has been an active re-enactor with the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment.
